John and the law again, Dierks swaddles his dogs & CMA Music Fest River Front Lineup
Metro Police tossed John Rich from a Cafe Coco, popular 24-hour Elliston Place eatery early this morning after he tossed a glass bottle into the street. John rolled in around 2:45 and ordered a longneck bottle of beer, and was told they had to finish the beers by 3 a.m., which is state law. John went up and played a few songs when the waitress came by 15 minutes later to ask him to surrendered the beer… John told her “You don’t interrupt me when I’m playing a Roger Miller song!” But when the server went to grab the beer, John snatched it up first and threw it over the fence into the street. Did I forget to mention that there Oh, did I mention there was a Metro police Sergeant and a News 2 crew on the front porch. The officer asked him to leave. No citation or ticket was issued. This happened less than a week after John turned himself in on assault and harassment charges stemming from a long-time beef with former Nashville Star contestant Jared Ashley.
Dierks Bentley recently admitted that he learned how to swaddle by practicing on the two dogs, Jake and George. He and his wife had understandable concerns about the dogs but they have been very accepting. Dierks said “Jake thinks his job is to protect me from squirrels,” the proud dad explains. “And he thought kids were big squirrels.”
In 1991, a then-unknown musical talent named Brad Paisley went to see the movie Father of the Bride, starring Steve Martin. Little did Brad know then what a role the then-unknown actress playing Martin’s daughter would have in his life. The film launched Kimberly Williams‘ career…and — as you no doubt know — several years later she became Brad’s real-life bride. So when Martin (who recently released a bluegrass album) played the Grand Ole Opry this weekend, Brad and Kim decided to pay him a surprise visit… and what an emotional moment it was for both Brad and Kimberly… there was Brad, onstage, seeing Kimberly side stage and knowing Steve Martin was backstage and announcing to the audience that he went to that Steve Martin move because he like Steve and then saw the woman that would one day become his life and here he was, full circle, on the stage with two of the most influential people in his life. It was a tear jerking moment for all of us.
As for Steve Martin, he made his Opry debut with longtime buddies John McEuen of the Nitty Grity Dirt Band. Brad was only asked to play because he showed up to see Steve.
Brooks & Dunn are poised to hit the road a week from Saturday with the June 6th North American kick-off of their 2009 Cowboy Town Tour. And as they look ahead to the tour, Ronnie Dunn tells us that while their concerts may include favorite ballads like “Believe,” their approach to performing is “more about creating a party atmosphere and showing people a good time.” And with more than a few hits under their belts, the guys have developed a great sense of what kind of songs really work to keep the party going. Brooks & Dunn are new on the charts and moving fast with their latest single, “Indian Summer” their next album is coming later this year! And Happy Birthday to Ronnie Dunn, who celebrated his big day yesterday!
