Opry invites, Jamey & Randy tattle & Reba writes a letter
Montgomery Gentry were invited to join the Opry last night by Charlie Daniels. They were quite emotional in interviews afterward because they have been working hard to get there. Their dream was to come to Nashville, do this for a living and be a member of Grand Ole Opry.
“The Music City July 4th: Let Freedom Sing!” show which is one of the largest fireworks displays in the country has announced Wynonna as the the headliner. Nashville’s piano pop The Gabe Dixon Band is also on the bill, along with — as usual — the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.The Fisk Jubilee Singers will do the anthem. And Nashville actor Barry Scott will do his recitation thing…Wynonna said in a statement: “Singing with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra? My favorite. Being in Nashville for the July 4th weekend with my family to celebrate the South’s largest fireworks display? Even better. Using my gift to encourage and inspire others during this tough economic time? My purpose. This event is the total package for me and I’m going to sing it like nobody’s business.”
Gary Allan’s accused stalker, Katherine Walker, 47, told reporter’s today that Gary has been stalking HER, for three years. She said he, his band and his friends were making her think that he liked her and wanted her,” she even said “they’ve written songs about me.” Katherine has been bound over to the grand jury on charges of vandalism, burglary and theft. Gary’s attorney, Bill Ramsey, also filed a civil suit today, basically asking Katherine to leave Gary alone. A judge told her that if she didnt leave him alone he would revoke her bond.
Randy Houser and Jamey Johnson sat down at their favorite watering hole, Losers, in Nashville and told stories about each other. Jamey says that behind that innocent little giggle, Randy Houser, is a bear. Jamey recalls a story that was told the first time he met Randy about how Randy and another guy whupped an entire bar down in Mississippi. But Randy chimed in saying that he couldnt let it pass that Jamey Johnson has a Star Trek collection and that Jamey is quick to pull a gun, ask Rhett Akins! But he also added that Jamey is probably one of the sweetest souls that ever was. The circle is very small, and once he realizes you belong in that circle, he’ll take on that bear for you.
Reba McEntire has put pen to paper in an effort to help out a fellow Oklahoman who’s currently in some pretty serious legal trouble. Businessman Steve Phipps, plead guilty in 2007 to a federal conspiracy charge after acknowledging he had bribed three legislators in return for getting taxpayer money for his companies, is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday (May 27) in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He’s facing five years in prison. Reba was among 45 people who wrote to the judge in the case, asking that the court be lenient on Phipps.
In one of his proudest accolades to date, Jimmy Wayne is being honored by the Salvation Army. The 36-year-old is the youngest person the charity has ever recognized for outstanding contributions. Wayne is really passionate about anything that has to do with helping teenagers. Jimmy, himself a survivor of the foster-care system.
